What is Anime?

Anime (sometimes called "Japanimation") is a certain kind of animation from Japan. The word "anime" is an abbreviation of animation used by the Japense. However, it later became catogorized to specify Japanese animation. According to Wikipedia, the first anime ever produced was in 1917, consisting of a two minute clip of a samurai testing his new sword and being defeated.

The first successful anime was produced by a man named Osamu Tezuka in 1963, according to Luther from About.com. Tezuka-sama loved American cartoons, especially Disney movies.

Unlike American cartoons, anime focuses more on a broader audience, whereas the majority of American cartoons focus on children. For these reasons, many consider anime to be for teenagers and adults alone, which is a poor assumption.
